Whatever George Soros does in Sri Lanka can’t be good

George Soros can best be described as an ultra-left billionaire who funds a vast array of front groups to carry out his agenda. In some cases, he is honest about what he supports with an estimate of $8 billion that he has given away. Yet in many other cases, too many, Soros is willing to fund obvious front organisations and intellectually dishonest activists. For example, Sorosfiles.com lists the Top 150 Grantees that were supported by Soros’ Open society Institute and how much he has donated to each group.

Directly Soros is more blatant in his efforts create social change by pouring billions into fringe and extremist organisation that suit his agenda.

Discover the Networks website has listed many of the fronts and organisations that Soros financially supports:

  • Amnesty International: This organisation directs a grossly disproportionate share of its criticism for human rights violations at the United States and Israel.
  • Catholics for Choice: A non-Catholic organisation that falsely presents itself as catholic to promote abortion-on-demand policies.
  • Center for Reproductive Rights: CRR’s mission is to guarantee safe, affordable contraception and abortion-on-demand for all women, including adolescents. The organization has filed state and federal lawsuits demanding access to taxpayer-funded abortions (through Medicaid) for low-income women.
  • Coalition for an International Criminal Court
  • EMILY’s List: Extreme Feminist and Pro Abortion organization that seed funds electoral candidates.
  • Feminist Majority: Characterizing the United States as an inherently sexist nation.
  • Human Rights Campaign: The largest “lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender” lobbying group in the United States
  • League of Women Voters Education Fund: The League supports taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand
  • MoveOn.org: This Web-based organization supports Democratic political candidates through fundraising, advertising, and get-out-the-vote drives.
  • Ms. Foundation for Women: This group laments what it views as the widespread and enduring flaws of American society: racism, sexism, homophobia, and the violation of civil rights and liberties. It focuses its philanthropy on groups that promote affirmative action for women, unfettered access to taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand, amnesty for illegal aliens, and big government generally
  • NARAL Pro-Choice America: This group supports taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand, and works to elect pro-abortion Democrats
  • National Public Radio: Founded in 1970 with 90 public radio stations as charter members, NPR is today a loose network of more than 750 U.S.
  • NewsCorpWatch: A project of Media Matters For America, NewsCorpWatch was established with the help of a $1 million George Soros grant to Media Matters.
  • Planned Parenthood: This group is the largest abortion provider in the United States and advocates taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand
  • Prison Moratorium Project: This initiative was created in 1995 for the express purpose of working for the elimination of all prisons in the United States and the release of all inmates

Again the list goes on and on, like a grand vision of a power hungry oligarch.

For a nation like Sri Lanka, whose traditional culture is pro-life and less inclined to entertain LGBT activists, Soros must seem like a great oddity.

George Soros is now looking to invest in Sri Lanka and become involved in some social projects. What does this mean for Sri Lanka?

We can use the examples above to see how Soros will view the socially conservative family oriented social structure of Sri Lanka. His habit of funding extreme left wing activists and hard core pro-abortion organisations may drop on Sri Lanka like an unwelcome bombshell.

Despite his dark past, Soros was invited to The Sri Lanka Economic Forum as one of the Chief Guests.

The only indication of resistance to Soros’ presence in Sri Lanka has come from an article on Lankaweb called What Sri Lankans must know about George Soros, January 3rd, 2016.

One incident of Soros’ direct involvement in Sri Lanka is mentioned:

  • Yasmin Sooka’s discredit report against Sri Lanka was funded by George Soros Open Society Foundation and at the end of ‘her report’, she thanks the organisation.
  • Yasmin has also been rewarded with an appointment to The School of Public Policy (SPP) at Central European University (CEU) as the inaugural George Soros Chair

Yasim Sooka

  • Yasmin was one of the founding members of The Sri Lankan Campaign for Peace and Justice. A website that now falsely claims that:

In the 5 month period between January and May 2009, it is estimated that between 40,000 – 90,000 civilians were killed in northern Sri Lanka.  Most of these deaths were by the Sri Lankan Army as it sought to eliminate the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) regardless of civilian causalities

(ed: I have written about the biases of “The Sri Lankan Campaign” in the past but as they say in Tropic Thunder: “You went full retard man, never go full retard.” With wild claims like 90,000 dead civilians they just did.)

Soros has heavy involvement in groups that regularly criticized the Sri Lankan Government during the previous Civil War whilst down playing the atrocities of the LTTE.

  • Human Rights Watch (HRW) owned by Soros
  • Soros on Board of Trustees in International Crisis Group (ICG)

Both HRW and the ICG put immense pressure on Sri Lanka at the height of the civil war to negotiate with the LTTE. Both groups were far more critical of the Sri Lanka government than they were of the LTTE.

Conclusion:

Chasing down the Soros Empire is to go down a very dark passage. If he was honest and upfront about his activities then his ambitions would be out in the open in the light public scrutiny. However, much of his political activities take place under the cloak of secrecy and deceptive front organizations. Soros has very extreme views on social change and has poured billions of dollars into programs to force his changes across the world.

It is difficult to see why he was invited to speak in Sri Lanka or what deals he wants. What is clear is that he has little affiliation with the truth and consequences of his activist campaign and can even sponsor reports written by UN senior staff.

Whatever Soros wants in Sri Lanka, it can’t be good.
