In a sudden move, President Barack Obama has decided to exercise his power before he leaves office in a few weeks.  He has given just 72 hours for 35 Russian diplomats to leave the USA.

This is claimed by Obama to be in retaliation for Russian interference in the recent Presidential election.  Obama claims that Russia hacked and released damaging emails that cost the democratic party candidate, Hillary Clinton, the election.  So far, no concrete proof has been presented by the CIA or the President to substantiate these accusations. Instead, news of the accusations was leaked to the media via anonymous sources from within the CIA.

The presidential campaign for Hillary Clinton was rocked by various scandals that included a series of email leaks from her top adviser John Podester.  The leaked emails were released by Wikileaks.org who claims that they never came from Russian sources.

In response, Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin press-secretary, said.

In our point of view such actions of the US current administration are a manifestation of an unpredictable and even aggressive foreign policy,

We regret the fact that this decision was taken by the US administration and President Obama personally,

The Russian Embassy in the UK have also responded to the news in this way:

President Obama expels 35 🇷🇺 diplomats in Cold War deja vu. As everybody, incl 🇺🇸 people, will be glad to see the last of this hapless Adm.

Some may suspect that President Obama may be accusing Russia to discredit the incoming Presidency of Donald Trump. Trump has repeated said that he was willing to work with President Putin to help bring peace and stability to the world.  The president-elect has been skeptical about the accusations of Russian interference.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday

To be honest, we are tired of [the] lie about the “Russian hackers,” which is being poured down in the United States from the very top

Incoming White House press secretary, Sean Spicer said Thursday that:

The Obama administration should release any ‘clear proof’ of Russia’s involvement with election-year computer hacking in the United States

President-elect Donald Trump responded to Obama’s decision by saying:

time for our country to move on to bigger and better things.

And would meet with U.S. intelligence officials:

in order to be updated on the facts of this situation.

The spokesman for President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, accused the Obama Administration of maintaining an ‘Unpredictable’ and Aggressive foreign policy’.  Further stating that:

Such steps of the U.S. administration that has three weeks left to work are aimed at two things: to further harm Russian-American ties, which are at a low point as it is, as well as, obviously, deal a blow on the foreign policy plans of the incoming administration of the president-elect.

Editorial Comment:

Is this Lame Duck President trying to ruin the world before Donald Trump takes office?  He only has three weeks of power left.  Why move now?

If so this is very dangerous game to play as it will damage his own reputation beyond repair.  Russia can afford to wait three weeks and deal with Obama’s successor.
