Why This Book was written?

The purpose of this book is to offer a viewpoint on the last years of the Sri Lankan Civil War.  Many people may have a vague understanding of the events that took place in the Sri Lankan Civil War and how they unfolded.  Others may be unaware that something of significance to the rest of the world has transpired.

Since the tragic day of 9-11, when hijackers flew planes into the Twin Towers, the West has been obsessed with the fear of terrorism and how to combat it.  Many preconceptions about terrorism were paraded through the media as if merely stating them made them true.  These truisms presumed that terrorism could never be defeated and that any attempt to do so would be counterproductive.  A defeatist mindset had set in where it seemed that the only productive solution to a serious terrorist threat was to do nothing.  This proved to be the wrong solution for Sri Lanka as it led to an increased threat that finally consumed more than 80,000 lives.

For more than 25 years, the Civil War and Terrorist Attacks plagued Sri Lanka, but in just three short years it was defeated.  The lessons that we learn from this example should send a shockwave through the counter-terrorist think tanks and policy makers around the world. We need to know how this tragic waste of human life was ended and we need to know how the lessons of the Sri Lankan Civil War can be applied to defeat other terrorist threats…
